#THOUGHTFUL FRIDAY RETURNS - NOW IN ITS 5TH YEAR

At Thought, we believe in the importance of being considered in our attitude towards shopping; which is why we launched 'Thoughtful Friday' back in 2015. This is a day where we commit to donating 50% of our sales (not profit) to charity. We love this opportunity to give back to the community, and this year is no different. On Friday 27th November, we will be donating to two incredible charities.

Black Minds Matter, who provide free mental health services to black communities, and The Trussell Trust who provide emergency food to the UK’s food banks for people in crisis.

Black Minds Matter

Black Minds Matter is a charity on a mission to create a safe space for black people to be offered mental health support by black therapists. The charity was founded in Bristol by Agnes Mwakatuma and Annie Nash earlier this year, just days after the murder of George Floyd. Following these events, Agnes and Annie noticed the mental health of black people around them deteriorating, and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Since their founding, the charity has grown and have managed to take a considerable amount of donations ensuring the funding for countless 12 week therapy courses for individuals.

Black Minds Matter has three clear goals: to connect black people with certified black therapists, to improve mental health resources for the black community through the NHS, and to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health in and outside of the black community.

The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust supports a network of 1,200 food banks all across the UK, providing emergency food and support to people who are trapped in poverty. The events of 2020 have left many more people facing desperate situations; through sickness, loss of jobs and money, people have been turning to food banks for the first time. That's not all though, research from the Trussell Trust suggests 670,000 more people will be destitute by the end of the year, in a position where their basic needs are not met.

The Trussell Trust has devised a 5 year plan to strategically bring people out of poverty, and end hunger crisis in the UK. One of the values of the Trussell Trust is to recognise the value of every individual who accesses a food bank, and seek to prioritise the overall need of each person. Each food bank provides additional support to the people who access the service, to help tackle the root cause that left them in the position they are in.

At Thought, each decision we make is with people and the planet in mind, and we want to take this opportunity to give back to the community. This year we hope to raise more than ever to give back to those in need, and we appreciate your support.

John and Rachel
